September 2019

According to the President of BALEVAL, the Vice President of the Balearic Government is aware of the impediments that exist for the rent a car sector of the Balearic Islands, a sector related to quality tourism and not that of low-cost mass, to adapt in time and forms the so-called Balearic Climate Change Law. On the one hand because this Law does not have its regulations developed and secondly because in the Balearic Islands we are still far from having a sufficient electric charge infrastructure to give a sufficient response, both to residents and tourists who make use of the rental vehicles In addition to all this, in no airport of the Islands is planned the installation of charging points to serve the thousands of vehicles that are rented daily. For his part, the President of FENEVAL, Juan Luis Barahona, has told Yllanes that he joins that the brands still do not have a guarantee of sufficient supply of electric vehicles that will comply with the percentages set by said law. In this regard, the Vice President of the Government has stated that he would be willing to hold a tripartite meeting with the manufacturers of electric cars to find solutions.

Finally, Masferrer has pointed out that currently, the Balearic rent-a-car fleet consists of less polluting and more energy efficient vehicles, since these are the latest generation cars that minimize CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Likewise, and in the words of Juan Luis Barahona, and according to calculations of the national employer's association, FENEVAL, the rent a car vehicles emit an average of between 5 and 14 mg less than C02 per kilometer traveled compared to the average for the rest of the vehicles circulating on our roads.
